Star field inspiration

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

This is to hopefully inspire me for my star-field ceiling I am planning.
Here is an image of what I hope the end product may look like:

Star Ceiling

What my ceiling may look like (hopefully nicer)

Hopefully mine will look a little nicer that this one, but this is the idea I have in my head.

I also found this while I was searching for images:

Starfield installation guide

So I guess there is no need to continue posting on this subject now that someone actually made a guide on how to do one…

Fuji F70EXR

Fuji F70EXR

Possibly Kyle's new camera

I found a review of this camera at DigitalCameraReview.com. I am thinking of purchasing it within the next month or so. I was leaning to wards the Lumix ZS3 but found it to be a little too costly at $400 and I really don’t need HD video at the moment, though it would be nice to have in the future. But really how long does a camera last 2 – 3 years max?

Let me know what your thoughts on Fuji cameras, I have used Sony and Cannon in the past. I liked the Cannon cameras performace but found the build to be subpar and they only seem to getting worse, the new ones seems really cheap and flimsy.

House projects on the go

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Alright so now I have created a blog, but found I don’t know what to write about. The only blog I have read is Failblog but I don’t have load of pictures of people failing so instead I thought I would write about the projects I have to do around my home.

I recently built a new home and created a ton of projects for my wife and I. Some project have already been completed like tiling the whole main floor, painting every wall on the main floor, framing in the basement, plumbing in the basement, wiring electrical in the basement… the list goes on. Anyway I thought this would be a good way to log my progress with the current projects that I have inside the house and outside. I have lots on the go and maybe this blog thing will help my wife and I focus on finishing them.

The first project I will be tackling is the unfinished master bathroom. When we built, I just had the builders rough in for a separate shower and bathtub. So now my job it to make a drop in for the tub and frame in a shower, install heated flooring and tile, and to top it off I’d really like to change out the cabinets that the builder installed to and take down the 9′ long mirror. This is also where the star field project I am working on will be installed. I plan to place this above the jetted bathtub in hopes of creating a relaxing spa feel to the room. Project 1

The next project I have is a wine room. I have created a room that will hopefully be a multipurpose room where I can make and store wine. This will go in stages, where stage 1 has already been completed. I have created a 6.5′ x 8′ room that I will be priming tonight. It is a simple room, completely insulated and vapor barriered from the rest of the house, it has plumbing for a sink some lighting and a plug. In the future I plan on making a built in wine rack to showcase 200 bottles of wine plus storage for more wine in cabinets. I conditioning this room so that it is the proper temperature to store wine in. Project 2

Another indoor project that I have is to finish the basement, this would include another bathroom, entertainment area, espresso bar / kitchenette and bonus room. (a couple of years away?) Project 3

I also have a quite a few major outdoor project too (deck, patio, lawn, outdoor fireplace, and pool) but seeing it is winter here, I’ll post about those in the spring and summer.

I’ll be posting pictures of project as I go as soon as I purchase a camera…

Today at coffee

Tuesday, January 12th, 2010

Today at coffee we almost beat up Andrae for being a know-it-all about glass jar making but then he did a small magic trick and we all decided not to beat him up.

please comment on your thoughts about today’s coffee break.

Wow, that was easy!

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Okay, so I guess WordPress is easier to integrate than I originally thought! So the blog is now live and integrated, well partially, I’ll be changing minor details as I go but this is pretty much the function I wanted untill I get Mardena.com version 2.0 out. (sometime in the far future, end of 2010 early 2011, maybe for May1reboot! we’ll see)

Anyway please check back regularly as I’ll be posting updates to my star field ceiling soon!

Hello World!

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Hello to the people who may have stumbled upon this new blog. Welcome to my first post! Just to let you know this is only a test site at the moment, but I made it live just for fun and so that anyone could follow my blog right from the start if they wish. Hopefully in the near future I will blend this page so that it flows seamlessly with my design portfolio http://mardena.com page and make it public. The reason I am starting this is to blog my adventures of making a star field ceiling in our master bathroom. Hopefully it will become a useful guide on how to build one of these star fields, though I have never built one before, nor have I actually seen one like the one I wish to build in person… so good luck to me in this adventure. I hope it brings pleasure and useful information to all!

I have purchased a Cool Sky Led lighting unit and a 200 strand 1mm fiber optic cable to start the project. I plan on making the project cover a 5′ x 3′ area directly above the jetted tub. I was planning on using a 1/2″ sheet of MDF for my ceiling panel but am not too sure about how the steam from the shower (which is separate glassed in) would effect this (I’m worried about sag). If anyone who reads this knows of a better material to use or think that the MDF should be fine please email me or post a comment.

I will post more pictures as the project progresses.
